WinMx Effex was inspired by the WinMx community itself.  There are numerous WinMx related websites on the internet.  There are none like WinMx Effex.  You will find this website a comprehensive, informative, valuable resource for all your WinMx needs.  We endeavour to make available every WinMx product free of charge.  If anyone ever attempts to charge you for WinMx, quickly delete that site from your memory. 

WinMx is a peer to peer network, and since 2005, has been operated soley by its users.  Frontcode, the makers of WinMx P2P Protocol, were served with a DCMA order by the Recording Industry Artists Association (R.I.A.A.), in September 2005, and they promptly shut down their peer cache servers leaving WinMx users unable to connect.

The WinMx community then came together and did what no other group from any peer to peer network, threatened with erasure, has been able to do - they began to operate the WinMx peer to peer network by themselves. 

The operation of the WinMx peer to peer network, since Septermber 2005, has been fully under control by its own users, in the same decentralized fashion for which the WinMx Chat has become famous.  Peer caches are hosted by users themselves, helping to maintain the network, with never again a need for a centralized server.

This puts WinMx (possibly the most popular filesharing program in the world in 2005) in an enviable position, above all other peer to peer networks, or even the explosively popular torrent programs.  Unlike all the other networks established for file sharing on the internet, WinMx alone stands outside of any legal or even physical (hacking) threat to its network.

When the WinMx community came together to solve the crisis in 2005, they also instituted new methods to block the R.I.A.A.'s attempts to flood the network with fake files.  The efforts of numerous individuals and teams that were invested on behalf of WinMx have continued to make WinMx a viable, enjoyable, dynamic peer to peer network, to this day.

WinMx Effex aims to give credit to all those involved in promoting, maintaining and helping to evolve, WinMx.  In contrast, we will also take aim at any who attempt to marginalize WinMx in the media, and any who would attempt to hack the network or its related programs.

Remember, WinMx is totally legal. 

It is a peer to peer file sharing network where much of the content is un-copyrighted material.  WinMx Effex does not promote the sharing of copyrighted materials.  If you are unsure of the copyright status of any file from any network, then err on the side of caution, and avoid it.

In addition to file sharing on the WinMx peer to peer network, there is also a world class chat functionality on WinMx.  Any user can host their own chat room, of any kind, with any rules they want, and have their channel listed on the WinMx Protocol peer to peer network (WPN).

The chat rooms have ideological themes - some are music, movies, audiobooks, etc, file sharing rooms, while others have no identification with filesharing at all - philosophy, sexuality and religious rooms.  There is a warning before entering WinMx Chat, reproduced here:
